What is the Selection Process?
The selection process is a structured approach to choosing the design elements of your home. At Prodigy Homes, we make this step streamlined and enjoyable through two main stages: Schedule 1 and Schedule 2. These schedules ensure that all decisions are made in an organized manner, keeping the home-building process on track while preventing homeowners from feeling overwhelmed with choices.
Schedule 1 (Scheduled 2 weeks after signing the contract): This phase focuses on exterior selections, including stucco, siding, roofing, windows, entry doors, garage doors, porch and patio finishes, and landscaping elements. Since these choices impact the structural and architectural integrity of the home, they are finalized early in the process.
Schedule 2 (Scheduled 4 weeks after signing the contract): This phase covers interior selections, such as flooring, cabinetry, millwork, paint, countertops, backsplashes, drywall textures, plumbing fixtures, and electrical selections. Breaking the process into two meetings allows for a thoughtful and manageable approach to designing your home.
The Selection Center Experience
For both Schedule 1 and Schedule 2, you’ll begin by making an appointment and visiting our local Selection Center at Great Floors. Here, you’ll meet with our design consultant, who will guide you through the process room by room to select key elements and which elements are standards or upgrades such as:
Flooring – Choose from a variety of materials, including hardwood, tile, and carpet, to match your aesthetic and lifestyle.
Cabinetry – Select styles, finishes, and layouts to create a kitchen and bathrooms that are both functional and beautiful.
Millwork – Customize trim, baseboards, doors, and other architectural details to add character to your home.
Paint – Pick your interior and exterior colors to create the perfect ambiance and curb appeal.
Countertops & Backsplashes – Explore an array of materials, from quartz to granite, to create a stunning and durable surface.
To ensure a seamless experience, Jennifer, Ginger, and Jasmine will be present at these meetings to guide you in making choices that result in a cohesive yet uniquely personalized home. By this stage, we will have a clear understanding of your goals and aesthetic preferences, allowing us to offer expert recommendations tailored to you and your family.
Personalizing Your Lighting & Electrical
Lighting plays a crucial role in both the aesthetics and functionality of your home. Instead of selecting lighting fixtures in person, we provide an easy-to-use online Lighting Selection Center. Here, you can browse a curated collection of fixtures by room, choosing from a variety of styles and finishes to match your design vision. Additionally, during the Schedule 2 meeting, we will finalize the placement of can lighting, chandeliers, and built-in lighting, as well as electrical outlets to accommodate TVs, entertainment centers, office setups, and more.
How to Prepare for Your Selection Meetings
To make the most of your selection meetings, we highly encourage clients to send inspiration photos ahead of time. (Feel free to create Pinterest boards, and check out inspiration from our past designs). Having an idea of your preferred styles, colors, and finishes allows us to better prepare and offer guidance that aligns with your vision. Whether it’s a Pinterest board or saved images of dream home features, these references help create a clear path to achieving your desired aesthetic.
